Bike to Work Week, April 24-28, 2006
Why bike to work?
- Health - burn ~200 calories per commuting day (150 lb. rider)*
- Gas savings - save approximately 38 gallons of gas per year (3 day/week, 52 weeks/year)*
- Vehicle maintenance savings - save your paint, tires, and one oil change every two years*
- Save time and earn bragging rights - Are you regularly stuck in traffic? Wave at your co-workers as you ride by them!

What do you need to bike to work?
- A bicycle in good working order
- Bicycle helmet
- Lights and reflectors (white headlight and red tail-light or reflector)
How do you stay safe?
- Always be alert
- Follow vehicle regulations
- Ride with the flow of traffic
- Clearly signal your intentions
- Obey all traffic laws (Stops signs are for bikes too!)
Do you wear work clothes that wouldn't be practical for cycling?
- Drive to work on Mondays, bringing in work clothes for Tuesday through Thursday.
- Bike to work Tuesday through Thursday, changing clothes when you arrive at work.
- Drive to work on Friday, bringing your work clothes home for cleaning.
